Scattering Ashes At Sea

Urn“The burial at sea for my father exceeded my expectations. Captain David and his crew were very compassionate and provided a great tribute to my father who had always said he wanted his ashes spread at sea.  My father got what he wanted and the tribute was very peaceful as we did it in the evening just as the sun was setting over Fort Lauderdale.  I will remember it forever” – Stacy Thompson

Here at we do burials at sea for families daily, serving all of South Florida since 1996 for Ocean Burials. Because we are not a funeral home or cremation service (we recommend Fred Hunters), we do not have any additional fees as we are the owners of the boats and our captains work for us. When you do a burial at sea with us, it is 100% with us (not outsourced) and offered for a flat fee.

Our private tributes at sea are done on our larger 50′ sport fish boats which can accommodate up to 6 people or our larger boats which can do groups of 7 or more. Either way, you only pay one flat fee based on which boat you will be needing.

Where Do We Go?
You have the option of spreading the ashes in Fort Lauderdale or Miami.  We generally go out of Port Everglades or Haulover Inlet.  Our dock is a short ride to either inlet, however most of our burials at sea are done out of Fort Lauderdale for a shorter ride to the ocean.Once you leave the dock we have about a 20 minute ride to get about 2 miles offshore.

RentalBoat_PhotoHow Long Is The Trip?
The entire trip usually takes about 2 hours from the time we leave the dock until the time we come back depending on the location and length of your ceremony at sea. If you have any special request, please share them with us and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What Happens At Sea?

Our compassionate captain will give you instructions on when to throw the ashes in the water. Your entire family will be able to stand in the back of the boat and pay tribute during this time. Most of our customers throw flowers in the water to mark the area and the captain will circle the area and allow for moment of prayer or silence while we pay tribute to your loved one.  When you are ready, we will make our way back to the dock.

What Are The Rates For Private Burial?
Because you are dealing directly with the fleet and captain, our rate is a flat fee of $399.  In most cases, we need advance notice to reserve the boat for you, however because our fleet is so large, we also offer immediate bookings due to accommodate our customers timeline.

What About An Unattended Burial At Sea?
If you and your family can’t make the burial at sea, then one of our captains will take your loved one out to sea and scatter the ashes.  This is a flat fee of $75.  You will simply provide us the ashes along with payment and we will do the scattering most likely the same day we receive the ashes.
